My Agenda for Interbike

Sunday September 23
Flying to Las Vegas and checking into the Circus, Circus for the week.

Monday September 24
I'll be at the Interbike Outdoor Demo [floor plan] at Bootleg Caynon (Boulder City) all day (9 AM - 5 PM). Registration is at the Sands Expo at 8 AM, shuttle to Bootleg Canyon leaves at 8:30 AM. At the end of the day, I'll wind down at the Hammerfest Hour Party between 4-6 PM before taking the last shuttle back to the Sands Convention Center at 6:30 PM.

Tuesday September 25
If I can get a bike from an Outdoor Demo exhibitor then I'll be do the 24 mile out and back Tour of Lake Mead organized ride in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Otherwise, I'll probably be gambling all day or spending another day at the Outdoor Demo. That evening, I plan to attend the Coolmax House of Blues Party at the Mandalay Bay Resort.

Wednesday September 26
The first day of Interbike at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. I'm "working media" so I'll be posting what ever I see as newsworthy from the standpoint of this site. I'll be paying special attention to touring, travel and commuting/folding bikes, and travel related products and services. Sometime between 2-4 PM I'll swing by the Giro booth (#3757 south building) to see Alberto Contador. That evening, I'll head over to the other side of town (anybody want to share a taxi) to check out the Cyclocross race called CrossVegas at the Desert Breeze Soccer Complex. (Women's race starts at 7:30 PM/ Men's race starts at 9:00 PM)

Thursday September 27
The second day of Interbike. That evening I'll be covering a Crit race at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino called the WCSN USA Crit Finals. I believe WCSN will be broadcasting it live or maybe on-demand shortly after the race. Women's race starts at 6:15 PM/ Men's race starts at 9:15 PM. There will be an post race party at Mandalay Bay.

Friday September 28
The third and last day of Interbike. I'll be their all day before flying back to Berkeley in the evening.

My demo Specialized Stumpjumper. (Full Review). Specialized had one of the bigger booths with lots of bikes that kept all their technicians busy. They even had demo shoes and helmets.

The demo site was in Bootleg Caynon, 20 miles from Las Vegas. A great demo site for mountain bikes and some paved roads for roadies. Most companies preferred to let their products do the talking.

The view at the turnaround point of the 24 mile out and back ride to the Lake Mead Recreation Area. According to a recent report by LifeSciences, Lake Mead could dry up by 2021.

Schwinn was nice enough to lend me their top of the line, $4300 Peloton model. Very light and stiff one piece carbon frame made by an unnamed Asian source. Standard with SRAM Force components. It was the first time I've had a chance to get use to the SRAM shifters. They are not as smooth as Dura-Ace, but they contributed to the lightness of the bike. I take a 56" standard frame and this 57" frame fit me very well. It's a terrific bike.

Hanging out with Elton John.

Joe Yule (left) of Redondo Beach designed the winning Slipstream jersey for 2008. Seen standing with Doug Ellis (Slipstream). Joe spent 30 hours designing 4 jerseys. He received 2,088 of the 12,000 votes.

The winning jersey. It wasn't Joe's favorite of the four he designed.

The Tour of America press conference. A half baked idea that's hardly newsworthy at this point: Tour of America faces harsh criticism, in theory
