We are one week (six stages) into the race and today the Giro starts to get mountainous. After the start in Fidenza near Parma, the race heads south for the first of two cat 2 climbs during Stage 6. The peloton will exit the Emilia region and enter Tuscany via Passo del Brattello () in the Appennino mountain range at km 77. There is a second cat 2 climb, Spolverina, at km 144 followed by a cat 3 climb before the descent and flat finish in Marina di Carrara. With so many riders 8+ minutes back on General Classification (GC) after the start in Holland and the stage 4 TTT, this stage sets up for a bunch sprint from an eager escape looking to redeem themselves. The GC favorites will save their teams for another day and save themselves for the up hill and mountaintop finishes the following two days.
