Tour de France 2010 začíná, stejně jako letošní Giro a Vuelta, v Nizozemsku. V sobotu třetího července startuje 8,9 km dlouhý prolog 97. Tour de France centrem Rotterdamu. Bude relativně snadné jet časovku s málo zatáčkami a jen dvěmi nerovnostmi při přejíždění mostu Erasmusburg (lanový most spojující severní a jižní polovinu Rotterdamu. Start i cíl se nachází v jižní části blízko Zuiderpark. Toto je závod pro silové typy, takže Fabien Cancellara ze stáje Saxo Bank je hlavním favoritem na vítězství v prvním dnu a na výhru žlutého dresu stejně jako to udělal už v minulosti. Tony Martin z týmu HTC-Columbia už letos porazil Cancellaru dvakrát a byl pouze 3 sekundy pozadu v technickém prologu na závodě Okolo Švýcarska v červnu.
