July 23 post: The mountains are done and now stage 18 will likely reward those sprinters who have stuck out a difficult month of racing.

Stage 18 will head north from Salies-de-Béarn in the southwest part of France to Bordeaux, one of the largest urban areas in France and among the world's major wine industry centers. It will be a flat stage but strong winds off the Atlantic Ocean could influence the expected sprint finish outcome. Sprinters Alessandro Petacchi, Robbie McEwen, Mark Cavendish, Julian Dean and Thor Hushovd have made it throught the Pyrenees and one of them should win this stage. — Steve
