August 29 post: Stage 5 is clearly one for the sprinters with a big sprint finish expected in Lorca after 199 km of racing.

From Guadix, a plateau town among the northern foothills of the Sierra Nevada, we'll roll east through three provinces: Granada, Almería and Murcia. In the last third of this exposed stage, we'll drop out of the Sistema Penibético mountain range (and the Andalucía region) and into the Murcia region for the flat farmland run into Lorca where we can virtually guarantee a mass sprint. There are no categorized climbs along the way. Both Guadix and Lorca have hosted three Vuelta stages in the past.

This is the first of three stages in the Murcia region that will be good preparation for the upcoming UCI Road Cycling World Championships which take place in Australia between Sep 29 - Oct 3. — Steve
