September 11 post: Just one day after Peña Cabarga comes Lagos de Covadonga, the second of three consecutive mountaintop finishes. Long time Vuelta fans will know the profile of this Asturia climb.

This stage starts out flat heading west along the northern coast for 155 km, passing through Cangas de Onís and its Roman bridge before turning inland for the only climb of the day, the 13 km Lagos de Covadonga (profile) summit finish at 1110 meters above sea level.

If you want to win the Vuelta, you must perform well on this climb rated Categoría Especial. Since it was discovered in 1983, this climb has featured in the Vuelta many times, revered by cycling aficionados in Spain. — Steve and Juan
