5월 9일: 작년 몬탈치노 스테이지가 대박을 터뜨려(이 굉장한 사진들을 보세요) 2011년도 지로는 마지막 40km에 세 개의 경사진 스트라데 비앙케(주: 비포장 도로) 섹션이 포함된 투스카니를 거치는 또다른 스테이지로 돌아왔습니다. 스트라데 비앙케는 최대 15%의 가파른 섹션들과 고난이도 내리막길을 포함합니다. 하지만 작년 스테이지 7의 험한 날씨완 달리 오는 스테이지 5가 열리는 수요일은 화창한 날씨가 예상됩니다.

191km를 달린 후 이번 스테이지는 서부 움브리아에 위치한 선사시대부터 주거지로 사용되었던 고대 로마제국의 언덕배기 마을 오리비에또의 오르막 결승점에서 마치게 됩니다. 결승점에서 2km를 남겨두고 길이 600m 경사도 12%인 오르막이 있고, 이후 점차 완만해지는 지형입니다. 마지막 500m는 거의 평지입니다. 2002년에도 지로의 스테이지가 오리비에또에서 마친 적이 있습니다. 켈미-코스타 블랑카 팀의 스페인인 아이토 곤잘레스 히메네스가 종합우승 후보들이 포함된 40명의 선수 그룹을 4초 차로 제치고 스테이지 우승을 차지했습니다. - 스티브
