2012 Tour de Pologne Race Preview


July 8 update: The Tour de Pologne (English: Tour of Poland) (Polish = Wyścig Dookoła Polski) is flat to hilly stage race held in mostly southern Poland. It consists of seven or eight stages (seven this year). It was first held in 1928. Until 1952 the race was organised sporadically, but since then it has been held annually. Before 1993, the race was open to amateur cyclists only and most of its winners came from Poland. The event became a ProTour race in 2005 and now draws an excellent international field. Normally, this race is held after the Tour de France at the end of the July/ beginning of August but this year it has been moved up in the month to overlapping with the Olympics — Steve
